2010 New Year's Countdown in Paris Online
« Thread Started on Dec 29, 2009, 2:14pm »

For those of us who are not fortunate enough to be in Paris to celebrate the New Year, we can watch the sound and light show at the Eiffel Tower online, Paris time.

Here's the website:

http://31decembreaparis.com

...and here's a link to the page with an explanation in both French and English (scroll down for the English):

P.S. Just discovered that the website is set to do the countdown based on the time zone of the computer you are using. So if you want it to be done on Paris time rather than the time where you are - if you are in a different time zone, you need to set your computer date and time to Paris' date and time.

Bonne année tout le monde!

On our local news at 6pm, which would have been midnight Paris time, they cut to a live shot of the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the New Year. How I wanted to be there to see it in person!! It made me think of our friends who are lucky enough to be in Paris.

I was just watching the same thing ,Happy - both the national news and our local news cut to Paris to show everyone celebrating and the Eiffel twinkling - I wanted to be right there too - I know our friends who are there are enjoying every minute - sometime we'll have to have an OPF GTG for New Year's Eve in Paris!!!!

Just got back to my apartment from Trocadero. It was insane!
My friend was groped once and we were followed for a good 30 minutes by a creepy guy, but lost him once we started running. Massive crowds and closed Metro stations forced us to walk all the way back to the 17th.

The light show was fun, but I'm sure it would have been much better watching it at home, warm and comfy with a glass of champagne.

Oh well, at least I can say I experienced it and it was an adventure to be sure!

Happy 2010 everyone! ;D

Thanks for the on-site report, Rachel! How cool to spend NYE in Paris. Lucky you!

(Glad the creepy guy gave up the chase)

:D :D Bill and I were lucky enough to be on a friend's boat last night. We had dinner on the Seine just across from our port, where we watched one dinner cruise after another turn around and head back up to the tower. We have never seen so many dinner cruises going up and down the river at the same time!!

At 11:30 we cruised up to the Eiffel Tower. There were crowds everywhere, especially on le Pont Neuf and le Pont des Arts, and you could feel the excitement in the air. We moored on another barge on the right bank directly in front of the Eiffel Tower, WOW :o :o.

We were 6 adults and 2 children, the food was 3 star delicious, and the conversation fun, and thanks to Gilles being willing to take his "home" out on such a busy night on the Seine, we toasted in 2010 in style. How lucky we were to be able to celebrate the new year in such a special way.

We got back to port at 3am, and as we were cruising back up the Seine, it was amazing how many people were still out and about on the streets of Paris.

It was a night to remember, and we know exactly how lucky we are to being living on a barge in the middle of Paris. We pinch ourselves often because it is difficult to believe that we aren't dreaming.

Happy New Year Everyone :)

Nancy, how fun! It sounds absolutely lovely. :D

Sis, judging from the state of the area around Sacre-Coeur this morning, I can only imagine what happened last night! ;)
