Reflecting on my rather unkind post on the EC blizzard thread, re the "Are you boasting or complaining" question. I posted the following on an old aeroplane forum and received a surprising number, and variety, of replies.
What did you do on your 21st birthday Having to make reference to my logbooks, I hit on this page for June 1953. My 21st birthday occurred on 18th June 1953, the last three entries on the page refer. You can see I had an interesting month, which continues for another 6 entries.

That logbook is museum-worthy, Mossie. I am impressed by your penmanship.

Celebrated getting my PA pharmacist's license that day! Now I could make the big money as a registered pharmacist, all of $125.00 a week for 40 hours! Hey that was big money in 1959!

Miine had something to do with 21 shots of a dreaded Kamikaze (some completely disgusting alcoholic concotion), and a losing game of quarters with the College of Charleston soccer team. Actually - from what I can recall it was really fun!

Didn't do very much. It was 3 days before my graduation from college and 8 days before my wedding. Really poor planning as I still get combination gifts.

Denise - That day you reported for work with the terrible hangover was the very same day I immigrated to Israel.

I am so impressed that all of you remember the day so vividly!!! I was enjoying morning sickness with my first baby at the time, so my 21st birthday was a blur....

I was a student in Paris. I took myself to the grand opening of the Musée d'Orsay. I always thought it very kind of the French gov't to celebrate my 21st in such a grand fashion. I then headed across the Tuileries for a chocolate at Angelina's. By then my friends were out of class. My friendsand I had tickets to see a show at the Opera Garnier with her parents who were in town from CA. After the show we were joined by more at a restaurant along the quais in the 5th, with a mille feuille for dessert. The post-dinner party was a drunken blur and we end up being 2 dozen youth from across the globe sleeping on the floor in someone's chambre de bonne. The alcohol made me snore so loudly that I woke myself up. "Who's snoring?" I shouted. 20 or so heads popped up from sleeping bags, looking like worms coming to feed and shouted, "Its you, you moron. Now shut the F up and let us get some sleep!"
After the dinner (

Wow...what a fun thread! Mossie, I too am impressed with your penmenship. I'm actually impressed with you all for remembering.
My 21st birthday was celebrated with a bunch of friends in a Mexican restaurant. It ended up with me losing my shoes (permanently...and they were good shoes!) as well as threatening a bartender with an umbrella. I am not proud of this . I vaguely remember my girlfriend's husband leaning over me at about 6am and whispering to his wife, "I think she's dead!".
Ah, the good old days.

I just realized that my 21st birthday took place 3 days after the Kent State University shootings in 1970. I was a student at the time, and there was unrest in many universities across the nation.

On my 21st birthday, I took my then two year old son, trick or treating.
So it was not until November 5th that I actually celebrated.
Dinner and Champagne at Villa Marina (seafood) at Balboa Island, CA marina.
I did have other things to celebrate that year, my husband home safe from Vietnam and finally able to start college.

Katherine - 21 Kamikazes? Are you sure? Maybe after the first few you lost count. I drank 10 once and it darn near killed me.
Denise - got any pictures of the orange hot pants? That's something we'd all like to see.
And Phread - coolest birthday ever! Lucky girl.
Back when I was near that age, the "legal" age was 18, so that's the birthday I remember. I have no idea what I did for my 21st. But I plan to spend my 50th (or at least part of the summer before my 50th) in Paris!
