 Le Florimond
« Thread Started on Jul 5, 2007, 3:12pm »

I got last minute reservations at Le Florimond and am so glad I got them. This is a place I always enjoy.

The place is small. It's in the 7th, on the rue de la Motte Picquet. There aren't more than 10 tables if my mind serves me...

The owner is a nice man. He is nice on the phone, he is nice in person. We came in and he led us to our table, next to the bar, for which he apologized (but we didn't care). They took our coats and put them in the back room. Very nice.

They had a fixed menu at 35 euros. I found it an excellent value for what we had. Everyone was pleased.

They started us out with a plate of hors d'oeuvres, which were very yummy. But I don't remember what they were. I only remember the emotion they produced. It was "Yummy".

I started with lobster ravioli (ravioles). The lobster meat was perfectly fresh and had that good "crunch" it is supposed to have. The sauce it was served in was light and not filling. We all got that dish (their most popular) and we all loved it.

For my main course I had seared sea bass over braised fennel. The mixture of the fennel with the bass was a great taste. They had some sort of light sauce on it, which blended the flavors perfectly. My friend had the same and she loved it too. My mother had the stuffed cabbage and found it was delicious and a lot of food. She left 1/2 of it there, not because she didn't like it. (It's their specialty).

For dessert I had a chocolate tart. It was divine. That good "Yes, I'm in Europe" dark chocolate was used. It screamed for a coffee, which they gave me as I ate the dessert.

The pace here was excellent, not too fast not too slow. They were purely delightful people and so happy to please. At one point I told my mother "the fish was excellent" and the owner overheard me...he smiled.

It's so nice to go to a place like this, that really takes pride in presenting good food at decent prices. I always recommend this place to people.

Nota bene: it is known thorughout the American tourist world, so you will find a number of Americans there more than likely. BUT, it is "NOT" a "tourist" restaurant if you know what I mean. It is delicious....

Les, this sounds like a great addition to the already lengthy list of places to eat! Thanks so much for the details.

I agree Les! Unfortunately for me, when my terrine of lapin arrived, i realized that I had hit gastric overload in Paris. During my plat I had to evacuate and go home! The rest of my family remained and remember it as one of the best dinners in France. After I left, the staff was very worried about me, which is very sweet. No food was wasted in this episode. my son devoured my confit of duck and my dessert!

What night did you go? We had reservations, but once we arrived in Paris we realized it was super close to our first hotel, but our reservations for when we were at a different hotel, further away. So we ended up cancelling the reservation in leiu of something closer. It came recommended from a good friend, so I am sorry we missed out. Maybe you got our cancellation?

We went Wednesday June 27th. There were six of us. We made the reservations 2 days in advance, no problem. It was right around the corner from our apartment.

Nope, it wasn't either of you then. Our reservation was for Sunday, the 30th.

BUT...we did go past it on Monday night! OMG, les, did you see the 3 of us checking out the menu?

Oops! I realized I had left this one off my (final? yeah, sure..... ;)) list so it has just been added. No big deal. Of course an additional restaurant does not make things easy, but..........who cares? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have been reluctant with Le Florimond, although I have it on my list - the problem is that I know it is #1 restaurant in the Rick Steves universe. I can see that Les really adored her meal, and AFAIR gracejoan also goes there (which is a blue-stamp in itself !!) - but it would be nice to have other reviews as well.

I went to Auberge Bressane in September (just across the street) and it was very disappointing. I had a feeling that they cater to too many one-time tourists in this area ?? Scroll down to see that lunch - but it may not be symptomatic of the area, only of Auberge Bressane.

Shoesy, No way can Le Florimond and Auberge Bressane be compared. They are totally different. I did not like Auberge Bressane and I adore Le Florimond. It is true at dinner there are more Americans but at lunch the last time we were there(May 2009) with our French friend there was but one other table speaking English(American) who had a child and when the child started to misbehave the parents took turns taking him outside. The stuffed cabbage is wonderful if the weather is cold and the lobster raviolis although they are a little rich are delicious and the mille-feuille vanille is superb. I know you will have a wonderful trip.

It really sounds like a great restaurant, and to tell you the truth, I have no problem about being in a place with lots of Americans. Since this is only my third trip to Paris, I consider myself a real tourist. :-[ ;) ;D

Mrs L. thank you SO much for this clarification. I am happy to hear that Le F. is nothing like Auberge B.
So...... Le F. stays on the list for a July lunch. Stuffed cabbage, you say ? That's health food !
