Thanks for the warm welcome!

I love those rules, especially about nodding appreciatively. Actually, hubby is half way there, I even caught him surreptitiously peeking at a Paris website. I guess all my rhapsodizing has done some good!

Now, to get down to business, it looks like we'll be going for the week of Thanksgiving in the fall. We'd like to go in June, but I haven't found the right deal yet.

I second and third everything the lovely OPFers have said to you. I started with a 4 day trip, then went to two 5-day trips, a week trip and this summer it will be a month (do I hear six weeks??). It is NEVER enough!!

Welcome aboard. Prepare to become absorbed. ;D

Hi,
I am George, married to Stella for 40 years this May. We live in Ontario ,Canada. I am semi retired after working as a Bank Manager for some 30 years or so. Stella works in a Group Home for physically and mentally challenged children and even though I keep telling her to give it up, she refuses as she would miss the kids she has helped look after for almost twenty years.

We visited Paris a couple of years ago and loved the place. So much so that when it came up when we were planning this year's big vacation we decided not to go to to Victoria BC where our daughter and her family live.We were supposed to go to the wedding of a friend's son and we would have loved to have stayed with Caroline but we decided that this sort of wedding anniversary comes but once in a lifetime so reluctantly, Victoria was put off 'til next year. Caroline finishes her Doctorate then anyway so we are going to see her finally graduate and even start work sometime. We also turned down an invitation to another friend's daughters wedding in The Dominican in June and another trip to Pennsylvania in May. See how much we love Paris?.

Our son, Andrew is very supportive mainly because he knows he will get different pressies and maybe even LaDuree bikkies if he is real good and i don't munch them all on the plane back.

Anyway, that's us. 95 days to go and next week I can call it under 3 months. Not long eh?

Welcome George! Of course, you've made the only logical choice for your 40th anniversary, lol!

Den and I took our first trip to Europe in 2007 for our 25th anniversary and have been back to Paris each year since. I have 2 trips in 2010, one for 5 days in May with my daughter and one for 17 days in September/October with my hubby and our friends.

Nice to see another Canadian here. I also work for a Canadian bank on the brokerage side, maybe we even work for the same bank!

This is such a great place to get and give advice, suggestions and just share your love of Paris. You've found your peeps! :)

Actually Plano, but Dallas is just easier because people know where that is. :)

Missouri is a nice place, I've visited there a time or two.

Thank you all for your warm welcome. Jo, I used to be RBC until the late 90s. Only 88 days to go. Or less than 3 months from today or even 12 and one half weeks.Whichever sounds the least. That darn groundhog says that it will be Spring in 6 weeks so by that time it will be only another 6 weeks after that.

Does it sound as though we are looking forward to it?

What a fabulous forum you are!

I love how the internet works -> you connect with someone & then they connect you & so on and so on and voila I made it here thanks to Roniece from Australia who I found through Gitte's wonderful Paris blog!

You are all so lovely. The energy and warmth from all your posts is wonderful and I love the thought of getting to know you, all!

Live in Melbourne and coming back to Paris for my first visit in over 20 years, can't believe its been so long, doesn't seem it but most of the last 20 years I've been travelling various places like the States & Asia but as its my 50th birthday in November I thought Paris would be the perfect place to spend it.

As I have family in the UK thought I might have a month there first then head to Paris end of October beginning of November. Thinking of apartments (suggestions welcome) and will read voraciously all the posts on this forum. Reminds me of a Bali travel forum that has helped me in that place so many times, all the tips and tricks of the place, its like having family there!

Its funny as you get older, you really do things differently. The last time I was in Paris I was with my sister and we spent a week there after I had been living in the UK for a few years and wanted a great trip before I headed back home. I had been sick with bronchial flu or some such thing, came over by ship the week after the Townsend Torreson had gone down in the channel and it was still as crazily sickening a trip then but we had the most wonderful time but it was very touristy as it had been the three times before that.

So this time I want to blend in more, ok 2 weeks is not long enough to do that but I'm looking for suggestions about walking shoes (Riekers have been suggested) as I want to walk as much as I can. I want to meet people, not just see things, I want speak more French and connect and this is a great start, nothing like being with kindred spirits talking about a place we love so much!

Well there's a start. Just attaching a pic of me and my g/f Mez who I'm going with, she's never been to Europe before!

Love being here & thanks Roniece for the heads up!
Hugs
Lise x

Carmilla: thx for the kind words - and welcome aboard ! You two girls look very lovely. :-* You will find that Paris is an easygoing place, where no one winks an eyebrow at the sight of two girls holding hands. Hooray for the French broadmindedness and "laissez-vivre" ! :D

Anything goes in Paris, as long as you go about your business in a civilized, gracious manner. You can hang out in a dead-expensive-bar and drink yourself so stoned, that you can't tell what's up and down on the Eiffel Tower - and still you are treated with perfect, flawless courtesy as the most honored guest. As long as you behave yourself. Quietly......... 8-)

p.s. I never got myself stoned in expensive bars - only in cheap ones.
And noone gives a hoot there anyway !! ;D

p.p.s. I know about the "stoned-in-dead-expensive-bars", because my young niece Hélène and I witnessed a woman in the bar at Le Meurice in January, who was so plastered it was a disgrace. At 17:00....... :P

Dearest All
thank you for a wonderful warm welcome, so wonderful to be here in a place with virtual family. I'm sure I'll get to meet many of you on my journeys ~ hope so anyways!

Thanks for the heads up Gitte and I'm blessed for your blog coz its fab (truly it is, photos, fun comments, places you would never know about, superb!) and seeing an instalment from last year, seeing you with another couple of Aussies in Roniece and her son Marc I felt I wanted to connect with her (she looked so lovely and Marc too) and she directed me here. I had never heard of this forum before but feel rapt to be here, I am a veritable info hound and love participating and giving help to others where I can.

I'm going to spend time going through posts and picking lovely snippets, in fact through doing the same thing on the web I've got a word doc already 100 pages, yikes, may be too much. I think I want to use my intuition as well and just follow that nose to wherever it takes us.

But hey when you're in a place like France where the people are hip and cool and the food is oh so fabulous and you're about to turn 50, hey what a dream!

Thanks a heap gang!

Hi Everyone:
As part of my New Years' resolution, this is moi. I have so many people on OPF to thank I know I will miss some of you, pardon. Gitte, TY, I discovered Kir, Jody, TY, I made the pomme tartine, Jo, TY my JB tickets, My profile says I live in Mass, but I'm really a Rhode Islander, of french canadian ancestry, a woman of a certain age, 3 children (1 in Germany) and 6 grandkids. Last Sept I spent a week in Paris with a girfriend after visting with my son & his family in Provence for 2 weeks. I came home with really bad PPD. Started to make a list of the things in Paris that I hadn't been able to get to, when I got to 14, I stopped and said how and when am I going to get back to Paris. I thought of selling my possessions on EBAY, no unnecessary spending, I really need to go on a diet anyways, so how much food can I do without. But as fate would have it, 2 weeks later I was offered a temp position,( I'm a semi-retired accountant, I work to travel), for a couple of months, enough to finance the trip back to Paris(9/18-10/2) with a couple of girlfriends. We've rented an apartment on rue Beranger near Place de la Republic. When I told my husband I was going back to Paris to get some really good boullion cubes (TY Sunshine) he said "Have you completely lost your mind?" YES YES YES So you see my dear OPF friends I am also on this wonderful cloud nine of yours, even though you haven't been able to see me until now. TY Annette for the exciting step by step buying of your apartment, I was cheering all the way, plus the 20 best tips you just posted.
I also work part time for a chocolatier Andrew Garrison Shotts of Garrison confections. He was the american judge at the World Chocolate Competition in Paris last Oct seen on the Learning Channel last fall and is now filming another segment to appear on TLC. If I can figure out how to upload some pictures, I will do a trip report from last Sept.
Again I want to thank all of you at OPF, :D

Hi btyflyrfree. Welcome to the forum! After your trip this year I bet you'll still find things you weren't able to get to. Means you'll have to plan another trip.

Here's a link to a post that explains how to insert a photo. I followed the directions in the post from Andi.
